Listening to the 500 best albums of all time accordinig to the Rolling Stone

  • Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco

Tall buildings shake Voices escape singing sad sad songs Tuned to chords Strung down your cheeks Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

One of my favourite albums, ever. This is the one I usually put on when I’m not sure what I’d like to listen to. Full of nostalgia, musical variety, positive energy in the music and a contrasting realism in the lyrics.

  • Blue by Joni Mitchell

Richard got married to a figure skater And he bought her a dishwasher and a coffee percolator And he drinks at home now most nights with the TV on And all the house lights left up bright

Joni Mitchell is _so_ famous, yet I could not have guessed the style! I’m too young. I listened to the whole album twice and loved it, such lovely music and voice, so much guitar, piano, and, I had to google this: [Appalachian dulcimer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_dulcimer). [Here is an early version of _All I Want_](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AavxMdFiZo) performed by her on a dulcimer. Listening to _[The Last Time I Saw Richard](https://open.spotify.com/track/5LZLOOTwrA0HgTszqCgZ3C?si=tgTFDGYHQ3OOSRNc4OqHeA)_, I immediately thought of Regina Spektor — it’s not hard to see the influence (of Joni on Regina, that is.)

  • Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys

Couple of OK songs you expect to hear on your dad’s radio, but didn’t get through the filter.

  • Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles

I was not expecting too much from something so overrated, but I actually liked this one! I can see how this was considered very new back then.

  • Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

I gave this one a try a couple of times, but never grew to like it. The instruments are OK, but there’s just way too much singing that’s way too annoying to listen for too long.
